In this article I want to take a moment to discuss how to record your swing using the Swingbot app, or any digital camera. If you record your video improperly, or from the wrong angle, your analysis results won't be accurate.
The Swingbot iPhone/iPad Camera
Let's assume that you have downloaded the Swingbot iPhone or iPad app from the App Store, and are logged into the app. From the home screen, tap "New Swing".
This will pop up the settings screen. There are many helpful settings that can make your life easier when recording your swing. I want to talk about recording yourself without a buddy by your side.
Using a Tripod/Bag Clip
There are several tripods on the market that hold your phone and some that even clip to your bag. I opted to go for the clip to the bag style tripod because I can keep it in my bag, or even clipped to my bag, and when I want to record my swing, just pop in my phone and start recording with Swingbot.
I grabbed this from Amazon from a company called BuyBits. They have a few versions to fit each phone and all sorts of different styles and mounts, so be sure to get the right one to fit your iOS device.
If you do opt for a tripod (which I highly recommend), you can change the settings in the Swingbot app to use the "front camera" when recording.
This will use the lens located on the FRONT of the iPhone. This is great because you can view yourself on the phone to make sure you are in the correct position.
There is even a countdown timer that you can set up to a 10 second delay so you can tap record, get yourself setup, and the Swingbot app will record your swing.
Record Your Swing at Hip Height
When you record your swing, be sure to record at approximately hip height. Why? Well imagine if you record with the camera pointed DOWN at yourself. The angles can become warped from the perspective and your lesson accuracy will decrease.
To insure a proper perspective, make sure your camera is about hip high.
